Workplace democracy and the role of social media in the contemporary corporate workplace.The findings of this study indicate that both organisations have a hierarchical internal makeup, which is heavily based on policies, guidelines and top-down communication structures.

For this reason qualitative research interviews was selected as the best possible media to reach the established goal.This method is also used to understand the experiences and attitudes of the participants.To collect the required data, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight employees at various levels in an automotive services organisation.Therefore, increasing demands are being placed on management to take the necessary actions and implement the required strategy in order to upturn the existing communication patterns and bring about effective results.The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) repository holds full-text theses and dissertations submitted for higher degrees at the University (including submissions from former Cape Technikon and Peninsula Technikon).Among those the most commonly examined are: the distortion of information, information overload, feedback implementation, gatekeeping, etc.Another field of significant interest to investigate is the direction of communication.Yet, it is the actual complication of communication that makes it attractive for researchers to study.Organizational communication literature includes a diverse field of interest.Information flow may many times may be an indicator of how communication is been developed in organizations and more specifically may indicate employees’ participation in the decision making process.This study examines the relationship among internal communication and employees’ engagement in decision making.
